Ingredients:

1 Lb. or 2 cups of split peas

4 Strips of Bacon

1 Chopped Onion

2 Carrots sliced

1 sliced Celery

10 cups of cold water

1 pinch of thyme fresh

2 bay leaves

1 Potato diced large size

1 bacon hock

pepper salt to taste

Preparation:

1. Put split peas to bowl with cold water and leave overnight so they can soak

2. Take bacon strips and cut into pieces. take large pan and dry fry bacon for about 4-5 minutes until it becomes slightly crisp and then remove bacon from pan.

3. Add onions, celery and carrots to the pan and cook for few minutes until onion becomes soft but not golden brown. put bacon back into pan add 10 cups of water also.

4. Add drained split peas to the pan along with bay leaves, thyme, potato and bacon hock. Let the water come to boiling point, then reduce the heat and let it cook for about 1 hour.

5. Next take out bay leaves, hock, thyme and put all contents of the pan into blender. Blend it until mass becomes smooth. then pour it back into new pan, add meat from the hock. Heat it through last time, add salt and black pepper and serve into soup bowls.

6. Being eastern european I don’t imagine any soup without sour cream. But many people don’t like it. so its optional enjoy. this split pea soup recipe serves 4 people!

I want to start this post off with a thank-you. Today is the day my new cookbook will be released, and I feel like a huge thank you is in order. I wouldn't be celebrating a day like today if it weren't for your support for my last book. Please, just know, I think about that often, and I couldn't be more appreciative. Those of you who have been long-time readers know how much I love the collaborative spirit of the book-making process, and I feel very fortunate to be able to share what inspires me in my own life and kitchen, not only here on the site, but also in book format. So, thank you. I hope this new book finds its way into welcoming kitchens near and far.

I thought it might be helpful to wrangle all the Super Natural Every Day info into one round-up post. I've done a good number of posts related to the making of the cookbook - and they're sort-of sprawled across the site right now. So, here it goes:

    - Super Natural Every Day website.

    - The cover image on Amazon got a little janky - but the good news is, you can now search inside the book.

    - Events! Here's the event/signings page: Hope to see you in San Francisco, Berkeley, Portland, or Seattle.

    - Six recipe sampler: includes the Millet Muffins, Ravioli Salad, Avocado & Mustard Seeds, Black Sesame Otsu, Tinto de Verano, and Tutti-Frutti Crumble.

    - Desktop wallpaper and iPhone backgrounds.

I want to start this post off with a thank-you. Today is the day my new cookbook will be released, and I feel like a huge thank you is in order. I wouldn’t be celebrating a day like today if it weren’t for your support for my last book. Please, just know, I think about that often, and I couldn’t be more appreciative.

I’ve done a good number of posts related to the making of the cookbook – and they’re sort-of sprawled across the site right now. So, here it goes:

    – Super Natural Every Day website.

    – The cover image on Amazon got a little janky – but the good news is, you can now search inside the book.

    – Events! Here’s the event/signings page: Hope to see you in San Francisco, Berkeley, Portland, or Seattle.
